Hopkins Noon Time Lions

Who are the Lions?

WHAT ARE LIONS

Lions are men and women age 18 and older who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in their local and world communities. By conducting service projects and raising funds, Lions strive to help those in need. Lions Club International is the world’s largest service organization with over 1.4 million members in over 200 countries. Lions Clubs International is a charter member of the United Nations.

Lions are known for their service to the blind and visually impaired. The Lions have many international programs helping people around the world combating river blindness, glaucoma, cateracts, and providing eyeglasses.

Additionally, Lions participate in many other programs including environmental issues, youth drug abuse prevention and diabetes awareness. Diabetes is the leading cause of preventable blindness.

First and foremost though, Lions are a local community based service organization making each community a more livable community.

WHO ARE THE HOPKINS NOON-TIME LIONS

The Hopkins Noon-Time Lions were organized in 1986 and presently have over 25 members.

Our mission is to serve our west metro community, schools, family resource centers, food shelves, service organizations, and fellow civic groups. Together, we all make a difference in the livability of our community.

  • The Hopkins Noon-Time Lions are active in our own community providing eyeglasses to Hopkins area students in need.
  • The Hopkins Noon-Time Lions have worked with the Resource West (formerly Hopkins-Minnetonka Family Resource Center) to provide school supplies as well.
  • The Hopkins Noon-Time Lions have provided financial support to the Alice Smith Elementary School for their outdoor classroom.
  • The Hopkins Noon-Time Lions have donated to and collected food for the ICA food shelf.
  • The Hopkins Noon-Time Lions host successful Spaghetti Dinner benefits annually for Opportunity Partners and Open Circle Adult Day Care.

As Lions, we do more to support our state, national, and international resources as well. The Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, Minnesota Lions Diabetes Foundation, Minnesota Lions Hearing Foundation, Leader Dog, and Lions Clubs International Foundation are a few of the many successful Lions programs we support.

Since 1991 our primary fund raising activity has been a mini-donut concession trailer that we take to various community events in the metropolitan area.

WHO IS A LION

Someone who achieves success, lives well, laughs often, loves all human kind, gains the respect of intelligent people and the love of little children; fills their niche, does their work well, and makes God’s world a better place than it was; by just a brighter flower, a perfect poem, a human soul awake to its own loveliness; feels the glow of beauty in all life, and never fails to voice his praise of it; sees the best there is in others and gives to them the best there is in them; life is one vast inspiration.
